Larry Guth became one of the leading mathematicians of his generation by connecting geometry, combinatorics and Fourier analysis. Born in 1977, he earned his Yale degree in 2000 and completed his MIT doctorate under Tomasz Mrowka in 2005. After positions at Stanford, Toronto and NYU, he returned to MIT in 2012. His polynomial-partitioning methods transformed incidence geometry and produced major progress on Kakeya, restriction and local-smoothing problems.
