The Mathematician NASA Trusted With Human Lives

Katherine Johnson used extraordinary mathematical skill to guide America’s first human space missions. Born in West Virginia in 1918, she graduated from college at eighteen and joined NACA’s segregated West Area Computing unit in 1953.
