Synopsis
Julian Schwinger displayed extraordinary talent from childhood, publishing physics research at sixteen and earning his Columbia doctorate at twenty-one. During the Second World War he developed microwave theory at MIT’s Radiation Laboratory. At Harvard he then constructed a rigorous operator approach to quantum electrodynamics, calculated the electron’s anomalous magnetic moment and created methods that spread across quantum field theory. This documentary follows the work honored by the 1965 Nobel Prize.
