John Tate transformed number theory through ideas that became standard language across arithmetic geometry. Born in Minneapolis in 1925, he studied at Harvard, served in the Navy and earned his Princeton doctorate under Emil Artin in 1950. His thesis connected harmonic analysis with class field theory, while later work introduced Tate modules, cohomology, duality and influential conjectures. This documentary follows his careers at Harvard and Texas and the discoveries recognized by the 2010 Abel Prize.
