Gérard Laumon transformed arithmetic geometry through work on ℓ-adic sheaves, Fourier transforms and the geometric Langlands correspondence. Born in Lyon in 1952, he studied at the École Normale Supérieure and spent his career at Paris-Sud and the CNRS. His ideas influenced an entire generation, including Laurent Lafforgue and Ngô Bảo Châu. This documentary follows his development of geometric tools and the collaboration proving the Fundamental Lemma for unitary groups, honored by the 2004 Clay Research Award.
